New Voices are Rising is a youth-centered, youth-based, and youth-led environmental and climate justice leadership program! They engage youth from the Bay Area communities of Oakland, Bayview Hunters Point, El Cerrito, Richmond, Pinole, Pittsburgh, and Antioch around local and global environmental and climate injustices.
Every summer, they hold a 6-week summer academy which provides a deep dive into environmental justice topics such as climate change and impacts, transportation, air quality, housing, food insecurities, race, equity, and much more. Youth are able to learn about environmental justice through curriculum, experiments, in-person field trips, hands-on activities, and more.
They are currently in the process of recruiting for their 2023 Summer Academy! They have 20 spots open, and youth who participate and successfully complete the program will receive a $1,500 stipend and an iPad in addition to weekly produce boxes and home garden kits! Students who apply will be contacted to schedule an interview.
