Antioch’s Annual Kids Fishing Derby

The Kids Fishing Derby is held annually at the Waldie Plaza located in historic downtown Antioch. The event provides kids and families with some old-fashioned fun.  The event is made possible through the great partnership between the City of Antioch, Antioch’s Parks & Recreation Department, and the California Striped Bass Association.  They do a great job each year raising money from seeking sponsorships and donations to host this free Fishing Derby Event for kids.

The event is free to all school-age children with all supplies provided.

The goal of the event is to…

  • create stewards for our future fisheries
  • show kids what fishing is all about
  • show the benefits of fishing as an individual and family

This event is held in the memory of Antioch resident “Compy” Compomizzo; he inspired the mission statement “Get Kids Hooked on Fishing, Not Drugs or Gangs”.

The City of Antioch is working with our partners to engage and bring together the community through activities and events to provide these experiences.  There are many things to do through Antioch Parks and Recreation and we hope our community can get involved and join us.
